The exact requirements are set by each federal state, each canton and the Austrian medical chamber: confirm them with the competent authority before you submit your file. In your consultation we go through the path of your destination with you.
Approbation (Germany): the full medical licence, valid indefinitely and everywhere in Germany; granted by the authority of the federal state.
Berufserlaubnis (Germany): a temporary permission to practise and earn while the Approbation file is completed.
Fachsprachprüfung (FSP) (Germany): the FSP exam before the medical chamber, at level C1: history-taking, medical report and case presentation.
Kenntnisprüfung (KP) (Germany): the medical knowledge exam. With a degree from outside the EU, from 1 November 2026 it will be the usual route; applications submitted by 31 October 2026 follow the current procedure.
MEBEKO (Switzerland): the Medical Professions Commission, which recognises the medical diploma and the specialist title.
MedReg (Switzerland): the register of medical professions; it records the diploma and the language (B2 at least, diploma less than six years old).
Berufsausübungsbewilligung (Switzerland): the cantonal licence to practise; many cantons ask for C1.
Ärzteliste (Austria): the register of doctors; registration entitles you to practise and requires C1.
Nostrifizierung (Austria): the university procedure that declares a degree from outside the European Economic Area equivalent.
