MT-L: clarify a sample enquiry by telephone in German

2 min read · KlinikDeutsch ·

An MT-L makes a phone call at a laboratory workstation

On the telephone, your words organise the entire enquiry. A clear order helps you clarify a question about a sample and coordinate the next task. Combine professional vocabulary with a conversation that is easy to follow.

Introduce the reason for the call

Identify your laboratory or work area and explain why you are calling. Then confirm the right contact person for the enquiry. Your colleague has a concrete reference from the start.

„Guten Tag, ich rufe aus dem Labor an.“
„Es geht um eine Rückfrage zum Untersuchungsauftrag.“
„Wer ist dafür meine Ansprechperson?“

The Rili-BÄK describes organised laboratory identification and documentation processes. Base your professional communication on your institution’s working instructions and established channels. Bundesärztekammer: Rili-BÄK.

Ask a specific question

Match the request and sample through the designated secure communication channel. Then state the information you want to clarify. A precise question makes it easier to provide an answer that moves the work forward.

„Ich gleiche zunächst die Zuordnung zum Auftrag ab.“
„Welche Untersuchung ist angefordert?“
„Wann wurde die Probe entnommen?“
„Wie ist der weitere Ablauf vorgesehen?“

These examples practise the German used in professional coordination. The information required and the handling of the sample follow the laboratory’s working instructions.

End with an agreement that leads to action

Summarise the agreement in a complete sentence: what information was clarified, who takes the next task and how the coordination is documented. You connect the call with the work that follows.

Practise „Ich fasse unsere Vereinbarung kurz zusammen“, I will briefly summarise our agreement, and „Ich dokumentiere die Rückmeldung nach unserem Verfahren“, I will document the response according to our procedure. Ask a partner to answer your questions and end with the agreed next step.
