A patient asks what will happen during the CT examination. You know the procedure; here you practise explaining it in German, step by step, with room for their questions. Connect your professional vocabulary with expressions the patient can understand.
Start with an introduction and orientation
Introduce your role and explain that you will go through the planned sequence together. This opening lets you begin the explanation and listen to the person’s questions.
„Guten Tag, ich begleite Sie heute bei der Untersuchung.“
„Ich erkläre Ihnen zuerst den Ablauf.“
„Welche Fragen haben Sie dazu?“
The published Bavarian LfP MT-R example uses a CT situation and emphasises understandable language. The phrases here are original examples for your language preparation. LfP Bayern: Beispielprüfung MT-R.
Explain one step at a time
Use zuerst, danach and anschließend: first, then and next. Explain one step and listen to the response before continuing. Adapt your explanation to the planned examination and departmental instructions.
„Zuerst besprechen wir die Vorbereitung.“
„Danach zeige ich Ihnen, wo Sie liegen werden.“
„Während der Untersuchung erhalten Sie Hinweise von uns.“
When a technical term occurs, add a simple explanation. You can explain Lagerung as the position in which the person will lie for the examination. Coordinate medical questions with the responsible doctor.
Check which part the person wants explained
Ask which step needs another explanation. Address the specific question and express that part in different words. Your conversation stays focused on the person and their information needs.
One ending to practise is „Wir gehen den nächsten Schritt gemeinsam durch“: we will go through the next step together. Practise with someone who asks questions during your explanation. You train both clear speaking and active listening.
